How Many IPTV Connections Do You Need? 1, 2 or 3 Devices Explained

How Many IPTV Connections Do You Need? 1, 2 or 3 Devices Explained – Strong8K UK

Quick answer

An IPTV connection is one screen playing at the same time. You can install your subscription on as many devices as you like, but a 1-connection plan only plays on one at once. Choose the number of connections that matches how many people watch different things at the same moment, usually 1 for one main TV and 2 for most families.

“How many devices?” is the question we are asked most when people choose a plan. It sounds simple, but the word “device” causes a lot of confusion. This guide explains what a connection really is and how to pick the right number without paying for more than you need.

Installing is not the same as watching

This is the key point. You can install your IPTV app and log in on your Firestick, your Smart TV, your phone and your laptop. That is fine on any plan. What the plan limits is how many of those devices are playing a stream at the same moment.

  • 1 connection: one screen plays at a time. Switching from the living room TV to the bedroom TV is fine, as long as the first one stops.
  • 2 connections: two screens can play different channels at the same time.
  • 3 connections: three screens at once, for busy households.

If you try to play on more screens than your plan allows, the extra stream usually stops or shows an error.

How many connections does your home need?

Your householdTypical viewingConnections
Living aloneOne TV, sometimes a phone1
Couple, one TVUsually watch together1
Couple, two TVsDifferent shows in different rooms2
Family with childrenKids’ channel upstairs, news downstairs2
Shared house or large familyThree or more people watching separately3

Three quick questions to decide

  1. At your busiest time, how many people watch different things? That number is your connections.
  2. Does anyone watch on the move? If someone streams on their phone while the TV is on at home, count them.
  3. Will you watch at two addresses? A 2-connection plan can cover a TV at home and one at a holiday home, as long as both are not used beyond your limit.

What does each option cost?

More connections cost more, but not double. With Strong 8K a 12-month plan costs £60 for 1 device, £110 for 2 devices and £150 for 3 devices. You can see every option on our plans page.

Money-saving tip: start with fewer connections. You can upgrade from 1 to 2 or 3 devices at any time and only pay the difference for the time left on your plan.

Does more connections mean you need faster internet?

Yes. Each screen uses its own bandwidth. Two Full HD streams need roughly 30 Mbps, and two 4K streams around 50 Mbps, plus headroom for phones and other devices. If your connection is borderline, use HD on the second screen.

Three real examples

Sarah, living alone in Leeds. She watches on the living room TV in the evening and sometimes on her phone in bed. She never does both at once, so a 1-connection plan is enough.

The Patels, a family of four in Birmingham. The children watch cartoons upstairs while the parents watch the news or a drama downstairs. Two different streams at the same time means a 2-connection plan.

A shared house in Bristol. Three housemates each have a TV or laptop in their room and often watch at the same time. A 3-connection plan, split between them, costs each person less than separate subscriptions.

Connections, devices and logins: the jargon explained

TermWhat it means
ConnectionOne stream playing at the same moment
DeviceAny TV, stick, box, phone or computer you install the app on
Login or lineYour username and password; one login can cover several connections
Multi-roomWatching in more than one room at once, which needs more connections

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Buying 3 connections “just in case” when only one TV is ever on
  • Leaving the app playing on a TV nobody is watching, which uses up a connection
  • Sharing your login with friends, which can get it suspended

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I go over my connection limit?

The extra stream normally stops or shows an error. Close the app on the other device and try again.

Can I install IPTV on more devices than my plan?

Yes. Install it on as many devices as you like. The limit only applies to how many play at the same time.

Can I upgrade my connections later?

Yes. Message your provider to upgrade. With Strong8K UK you pay only the difference for the remaining time.

Does watching on my phone count as a connection?

Yes, while it is playing. A phone, tablet or laptop counts the same as a TV.
